What We Do in Howell

What Howell Lawns Actually Deal With

A big township with very different soils

Howell covers more than sixty square miles. The eastern side toward Ramtown and Brick is sandy and drains quickly. Moving west and north toward Freehold the soil gets heavier, holds water longer, and runs off on slopes. One watering schedule cannot suit both. We set run times and cycle lengths by what the ground at your address does, not by a default program.

Wells and municipal water side by side

Some Howell neighborhoods are on a public water system and others rely on private wells, sometimes on the same road. A well-fed system has to be designed around what the pump can deliver, and it needs extra steps at winterization. See winterizing a well-fed irrigation system. If you are not sure which you have, we can tell you in a few minutes on site.

Larger lots and long runs

Properties in Adelphia, Squankum, and along the farm roads are often an acre or more. Long pipe runs lose pressure, and systems that were extended over the years can end up with more heads on a zone than the supply can feed. Weak coverage at the far end of a zone is the usual symptom. Rebalancing zones or changing nozzles fixes most of these without replacing pipe. See fixing low water pressure in a sprinkler system.

Newer developments

Subdivisions built in the last twenty years usually have a builder-installed system laid out quickly and never tuned. Uneven coverage, heads spraying the house, and zones that mix sun and shade are common. A startup visit with a proper adjustment makes a visible difference.

Earlier frost than the shore

Howell is inland, with no bay to hold heat on cold nights. Frost arrives here before it reaches Brick or Point Pleasant. The area sits in USDA Zone 7a, and we recommend having systems winterized between October 15 and early November. Pricing and the full process are on our Jackson and Lakewood winterization page, which covers the same route.

What It Costs

Estimates for new systems are free and done on site. For ballpark figures before you call, see our New Jersey sprinkler system cost guide and the winterization cost guide.
