Quick answer: For most New Jersey homeowners, yes. An annual sprinkler service plan covering spring startup, a mid-season checkup, and fall winterization runs $199 to $299. Booking those same three visits one at a time runs $235 to $360. The larger saving comes from never missing a winterization.
The Numbers
| Visit | Booked separately |
|---|---|
| Spring startup | $75 to $110 |
| Mid-season checkup | $75 to $100 |
| Fall winterization | $85 to $150 |
| Total | $235 to $360 |
| Annual service plan | $199 to $299 |
Where you land depends on the number of zones. The plan comes out lower than the three visits priced individually at every system size.
What the Plan Really Buys
The price difference is real but modest. The reasons people stay on a plan are different.
You do not miss the window
The most expensive irrigation repair is freeze damage, and the most common cause of freeze damage is that nobody made the call in October. A cracked backflow preventer alone is $300 to $600. On a plan, we contact you.
You get scheduled first
April and late October are the two busiest stretches of the year. Plan customers go on the calendar ahead of one-time calls.
Small problems get caught early
A system is looked at three times a year by someone who knows it. A weeping valve, a sunken head, or a zone that has lost pressure gets found at a routine visit and not after it has wasted a season of water.
The mid-season visit is the one people skip
Almost nobody books a July checkup on their own. It is also the visit that fixes brown spots, overspray onto the driveway, and a schedule still set for May.
When a Plan Is Worth It
- You have paid for freeze damage before
- You travel, or the property is a second home
- You would like irrigation off your list entirely
- The system is new and you want it looked after from the start
- You manage a rental and need service on record
When You Can Probably Skip It
- You are comfortable doing your own spring startup and only need the blowout
- The system is very small, with two or three zones, and has been trouble-free
- You are planning to sell or replace the system within the year
In those cases, a single winterization visit each fall is the one service you should not skip.
What a Plan Does Not Cover
Plans cover the scheduled service visits. Replacement parts and repair labor are quoted separately and approved by you first. Read the terms of any plan before signing, ours included.
Questions to Ask Any Company Offering a Plan
- Which visits are included, and what is done at each?
- Is there priority scheduling?
- How are repairs priced?
- Does the winterization include draining the backflow preventer and multiple cycles per zone?
- Is the contractor licensed for irrigation work in New Jersey?
